The present work sums up the results of investigations carried out by me during half a century. Some of them have already been published in journals, others appear for the first time in this book. The text of those already printed has been maintained unchanged, as it preserves the rhythm of the experiments.

Some conclusions drawn from bioptical experiments have been also applied to physiognomy studies and to possible materialization of Brancusi`s sketch relativement tel que moi.

Before reading the book, it is advisable to peruse the test-cards in the chapter Training of bioptical vision. The tests are meant for everybody, including pupils and third-age persons.

Some parts which I thought to be more representative are translated into English. An English abstract is also placed at the end of some chapters.

Bioptical art is a new field in visal communication. The volume presents techniques of rationally grouping different visual stimuli for the left and the right eye, different from those of naturalistic stereoscopy. These stimuli are shapes, lines and colour spots, which may be simultaneously watched by both eyes, using described means. The outcome is the emergence of shapes in virtual, nonconventional spaces, with depths which increase in time, induced by static signs; psychophysical combinations of colours with fluctuant, ghost-like, nacreous hues, stand out against the background. the author's research results in original perceptions, of interest for the fine arts, experimental psychology, medicine, antropology and military training.

The procedures described in the volume enable the joint drawing of artistic sketches by INTERNET. Studies in the mentioned fields and communications among specialists are also possible.

The perceptions due to Bioptical Art may lead to a greater psychophysical normaly. This new field may also be entitled Metaphysical art. Meditative life experiences, related to the mystery of living, could be included in the category of those induced by the Metaphysical Painting of Giorgio de Chirico. I have highlighted psychophysical phenomena, such as:

antispace, bispace, hiatus and hyperspace in art, dynamics of space depth, hyperrealistic effects, psychic cycle, psycho/physical mixture of colors, retinal cooperation, space and time in bioptical art, spatial harmony, spatial disharmony, visual gradient etc.
